Real striker Joselu has hit back at former FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique’s so-called “diss” of Real Madrid.
In an interview earlier this month with RAC1, a radio station in Spain’s Catalan region, Pique criticized their rivals’ performance by saying that “the Champions League that Real won in 2022 was a miracle” and “will not be remembered at all”.레모나토토 주소
“Given what Barcelona do and the expectations of their players, when they win, it’s remembered,” he said, adding that “if Real win, it’s just another title.”
He was referring to Real, who won the UEFA Champions League in the 2021/22 season. Real topped their Champions League group but were consistently winless in the knockout stages, conceding 11 goals in six games from the round of 16 to the quarterfinals. Real’s run to the final has been described as nothing short of miraculous.
However, Real did manage to lift the ‘big one’ (Champions League trophy) with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool. It was a game that epitomized the phrase “he who wins is stronger”.
In Pique’s eyes, Real’s victory was not a happy one, as they had been “stealing wins” and he reiterated this in an interview with the radio outlet, showing off his “Real hunter” persona.
Real didn’t sit idly by either. On the 16th, 90MIN, a specialized soccer media outlet, reported that “Joselu fired back at Pique’s comments”.
“If you don’t remember Real’s 2022 title, I don’t know what you’ll remember,” Joselu told Spanish outlet El Partidajo de Copa.
“You have to remember not only what happened in the tournament, but also the final,” he said. “It’s a title that will never be forgotten in your lifetime. Pique is a Barcelona fan, so he’s only saying that because he’s envious (of the win),” he said.
Barcelona finished third in Group E in the Champions League, behind Bayern Munich and SL Benfica of Portugal, so they had to head to the Europa League after failing to qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds. In the Europa League, they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany.
At the end of the year, Real had the last laugh. Real won the league title with 86 points and completed the double by winning the Champions League, while Barcelona finished second in the league with 73 points and failed to win the title. They also failed to win the League Cup and the Spanish FA Cup, meaning that the 2021/22 season would end on an indifferent note.
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti has also responded to Pique’s comments. “Ancelotti criticized Pique in a press conference, saying ‘Pique lives in a world of his own,'” according to Goal.com, a specialized soccer website.
Real, meanwhile, have finished second in the league behind Girona this season, just ahead of third-placed Barcelona. The first El Clasico of the season, a derby between Real and Barcelona, was also played on Nov. 28, with Real coming from behind to win 2-1 at home, thanks to a multi-goal performance from new ace Judd Bellingham.
