After avoiding a major injury, Hyun-jin Ryu (36-Toronto Blue Jays) will try to get his first win since returning from injury against the Chicago Cubs.

Toronto has confirmed the date of Hyun-jin Ryu’s next start. It will be at 2:37 p.m. ET on April 14 against the Chicago Cubs at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It will be Ryu’s third start since returning to the big leagues 14 months after undergoing left elbow ligament reconstruction surgery last June.

Ryu made his big league debut against the Baltimore Orioles on Feb. 2, giving up four runs on nine hits in five innings and taking the loss. He wasn’t smiling after pitching well in his second start back. Ryu started a road game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Aug. 8 and shut down the opposing bats until the fourth inning. However, in the bottom of the fourth inning, he was hit on the inside of his right knee by a 157-kilometer-per-hour fastball hit by Oscar Gonzalez, and was removed from the game ahead of the fifth inning. Ryu was diagnosed with a contusion, and further X-rays came back negative.

The Cubs are in second place in the National League Central (59 wins, 56 losses) as of Nov. 11. It will be the first time Ryu has faced the Cubs in four years and two months since June 17, 2019, when he pitched seven innings of two-run (non-hit) ball against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his big league career, Ryu is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts against the Cubs. Only three current Cubs players have faced Ryu: Dansby Swanson (1-for-8), Yan Gomes (1-for-3), and Heimer Candelario (0-for-3).

Looking for his first win of the season against the Cubs and his 76th win in the big leagues, Ryu will have to watch out for his former teammate. Cubs center fielder Cody Bellinger was a former teammate when he was with the Dodgers. Bellinger was released by the Dodgers last year and has been in a Cubs uniform this season. After struggling the last two years, Bellinger is hitting .327 with 17 home runs, 56 RBIs, 65 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases in 84 games this year. Along with Bellinger, outfielder Mike Tuckman, who played the entirety of last year’s season (144 games) for Hanwha, Ryu’s “parent team” in the KBO, is also on the watch list. In 66 games this year, Tuckman is batting .284 with seven home runs, 41 RBIs, and 44 runs scored.메이저사이트

Starting for the Cubs against Ryu is Jamieson Taion. Taion’s record this season is 7-6 with a 5.17 ERA, and he’s certainly a pitcher that Toronto’s offense can take advantage of.
