Major League Baseball (MLB) is expected to implement a stricter pitch clock next year in an effort to shorten the length of games.굿모닝토토 도메인

“Major League Baseball’s Competition Committee is considering a proposal that would reduce pitchers’ pitching time from 20 seconds to 18 seconds with runners on base starting next season,” ESPN reported on Wednesday, citing sources.

“The 15-second clock that applies when there are no runners on base would remain the same,” ESPN added.

The pitch clock was introduced in the 2023 season to limit pitchers’ pitching time. Pitchers will be required to throw the ball within 15 seconds with no runners on base and 20 seconds with runners in scoring position.

The effect has been to shorten the length of games. The average nine-inning game is now two hours and 40 minutes, down from three hours and four minutes.

The MLB office is continuing to experiment with further reductions in game length. This year, most minor league games were played in 14 seconds with no runners on base and 18 seconds with runners in scoring position. In the final month of the Triple-A season, they tested 17 seconds.
