“The Padres organization mourns the passing of our beloved chairman and owner, Peter Seidler. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn the loss of a special husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend,” said Eric Groupner, the organization’s CEO.굿모닝토토 주소
“He was a kind and generous man who was devoted to his family, including his wife and children. His impact on the city of San Diego and the game of baseball will be felt for generations. His generous spirit is now firmly entrenched in the Padres organization. He was a chairman and an owner, but at his core, he was a fan who loved the Padres. We will miss him,” the organization said.
The Padres added that the home plate gates at Petco Park will be open as a memorial.
Seidler, the grandson of former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Walter O’Malley, bought the Padres in 2012 with Ron Fowler. In November 2020, Fowler stepped down as the team’s largest shareholder and became sole owner.
Since taking over, Seidler has aggressively invested in the team and built it into the franchise it is today. The team reached the Division Series in 2020 and the Championship Series in 2022.
In 2023, the Padres went 82-80 and missed the postseason, but they were a box office success, drawing 3.275 million fans, the second-highest attendance in the National League.
We didn’t get to see them win a championship, but we did get to see the Padres push the limits of their market and become one of the league’s top box office draws.
The cause of death was not disclosed. It was previously announced in September that he had undergone a medical procedure and was unable to attend games.
Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred also mourned Seidler’s passing in a statement.
“Seidler grew up in a baseball family and demonstrated a lifelong love of the game. He was passionate about making the Padres a team that San Diego fans could be proud of. He worked to ensure that the Padres were an alternative for the San Diego community, especially when it came to homelessness. He was a passionate advocate for the Padres and Major League Baseball to be a vehicle for bringing people together and helping others.”
