Pittsburgh Pirates multiplayer Bae Ji-hwan (24) helped his team to victory with a multi-hit game and excellent base running. The Pirates avenged their last loss (2-8 in Atlanta on Sept. 9) against the Atlanta Braves, who were the best team in both leagues (92-48 (.657)) prior to the game.
Bae started in the ninth spot in the lineup against Atlanta at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, USA on Tuesday (July 10). He went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, raising his season batting average to .245 from .241.
Pittsburgh’s lineup for the day was Keebrean Hayes (third base), Brian Reynolds (left field), Conor Jo (first base), Miguel Andujar (designated hitter), Andy Rodriguez (catcher), Leover Peguero (shortstop), Jack Swinski (right field), Jared Triolo (second base), Bae Ji-Hwan (center field), and starter Johan Oviedo.
Atlanta countered with Ronald Acuña Jr. (right field), Aji Alvis (second base), Austin Riley (third base), Matt Olson (first base), Marcell Osuna (designated hitter), Eddie Rosario (left field), Sean Murphy (catcher), Orlando Arcia (shortstop), Michael Harris II (center field), and starting pitcher Dylan Dodd.
Bae’s first at-bat came in the top of the third inning. He led off with a walk and drove a four-seam fastball to left field. The next at-bat was where Bae really came into his own. Hayes’ pitch went deep into the left field seats, and he rounded all the bases to score. The local commentators couldn’t help but marvel at the “that’s good” base run as they replayed the footage of Bae’s storming run.
In his second at-bat, with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning, he tried to bunt, but first baseman Olson made the catch and threw out Triolo at first, forcing him to ground out to first base.
The highlight came in his third at-bat. With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Bae took a slider off reliever Michael Tonkin for a single, and while the opposing fielders made a replay to prevent the runner from scoring, Bae rounded first base and stole second.
His last at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning. He batted wildly, but was thrown out at the plate on a second baseman-to-first baseman double play.
Both teams engaged in bench-clearing early in the game, setting the stage for an intense contest. In the bottom of the first inning, a four-seam fastball from Oviedo dug deep into the body of Akuña Jr. and sparked an argument between Akuña Jr. and Oviedo that sent players from both teams to the ground. Luckily, it didn’t escalate into a brawl.
Pittsburgh struck first in the top of the third. Bae led off with a single to left, followed by an RBI double by Hayes to make it 1-0. Reynolds followed with a two-run homer over the left field fence to make it 3-0.
After cruising, Pittsburgh gave up back-to-back runs to tie the game. In the bottom of the third, Olson singled with runners on first and third to cut the deficit to 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Acuña Jr. singled with runners on second and third and Albies singled with runners on second and third to tie the game at 3-3.
The Pittsburgh bats came out on fire in the middle of the game, once again bombarding the Atlanta mound to take the lead. In the top of the sixth, Rodriguez’s RBI single with the bases loaded made it 4-3, Swinski’s RBI single with one out made it 5-3, and Bae’s RBI single with two outs made it 6-3. In the top of the sixth, Anduja’s RBI single with one out extended the lead to 7-3.
Pittsburgh cut the deficit to 7-4 with one out in the bottom of the seventh on a solo shot by Olson, but Peguero’s solo shot in the top of the ninth sealed the deal at 8-4.
Oviedo battled Akuña Jr. early on, allowing three runs on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. The bullpen of Ryan Borucki (1 inning of scoreless relief), Collin Shelby (1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief), Carmen Mazinski (⅔ innings of scoreless relief), Collin Holderman (1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief), and David Bednar (1 inning of scoreless relief) shut down the opposition.바카라사이트
