Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Andrew McCutchen will be out for the season due to injury.
McCutchen has been diagnosed with a partial Achilles tendon tear and will be placed on the 10-day disabled list, MLB.com and other local media outlets reported on Sunday, citing a team announcement.
McCutchen was removed from a home game against the Milwaukee Brewers two days ago when he felt something wrong with his left Achilles tendon while rounding first base and heading to second base after a hit.
At first, it didn’t appear to be a major injury.
The team announced at the time that it was a “precautionary” substitution. “I could have played more,” the player said, emphasizing that it wasn’t a serious injury.
But it turned out to be anything but. McCutchin will be wearing a foot brace for six weeks.
That’s longer than the rest of the season. He’s effectively out for the season.
McCutchen, who returned to Pittsburgh on a one-year deal this season, batted .256 with a .378 on-base percentage, .397 slugging percentage, 12 home runs and 43 RBIs in 112 games.
He reached 2,000 career hits and needed just one more home run to reach 300 for his career, but the opportunity passed to the following season.
McCutchen, who had written “I’m fine” on his X at the time of his injury replacement, shared it later in the day, adding, “Well, I guess not. Fuck, that sucks,” he wrote later in the day.바카라사이트
Jared Triolo has been called up. Triolo made his big league debut this season, batting .273 with a .350 on-base percentage and .314 slugging percentage in 36 games.
