Future Most Valuable Player (MVP) Julio Rodriguez, 23, of the Seattle Mariners, was named the American League’s most valuable player last month.
Rodriguez was named American League Player of the Month for the first time in his career, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.
Rodriguez was named American League Rookie of the Month twice last year and has been named Player of the Week three times. One last year, two this year.
It’s been a remarkable month. In 23 games last month, Rodriguez batted .429 with seven home runs, 30 RBI, 19 doubles, 45 runs scored, a .474 OPS, and a 1.198 slugging percentage.
Rodriguez’s numbers have improved dramatically since then. Through four days, he’s batting .285 with 24 home runs, 88 RBI, 83 runs scored, 156 hits, a .343 OPS, and an .825 slugging percentage in 129 games this season.
