That year’s rookie draft featured a number of big names, including Ryu Hyun-jin, Kang Jung-ho, Lee Jae-won, Hwang Jae-gyun, and Min Byung-heon. While it’s hard to top Ryu in terms of success, Yang was a secondary eighth-round pick at the time. Not many people expected him to succeed, but he is now the best catcher in KBO history.헤라카지노

Yang won the Golden Glove for catcher at the 2023 KBO Golden Glove (GG) Awards on Nov. 11 at the COEX Auditorium in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Yang received 214 votes out of 291 total votes cast (73.5 percent of the vote), beating out Park Dong-won (LG Twins – 53 votes) to win the ninth Golden Glove of his career.

It is his ninth career award. Yang, who developed into the team’s starting catcher after leaving the military in 2010, won his first award in 2014 and added trophies in 2015 and 2016. Since 2018, he has won the GG for six consecutive years. Excluding 2021, when he won the award as a designated hitter, he has won the award eight times as a catcher.

Park added his name to GG history by winning the award for the 2023 season. His nine career awards are second only to Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop’s 10. His six consecutive wins are also second only to Lee’s seven. The previous record was held by Han Dae-hyun, who won six consecutive times.

In the catcher category, Lee’s eight awards put him in sole possession of first place, surpassing Kim Dong-soo’s seven. It is also significant that he is the oldest catcher to receive the award. He became the winner of the award at the age of 36 years, 6 months and 6 days, surpassing the record of 36 years, 3 months and 22 days set by Kang Min-ho (Samsung Lions) in 2021 by about three months. The fact that Kim Dong-soo was the recipient of the award made it even more meaningful.

“I want to say thank you to my family the most,” Yang said after receiving the award, “I honestly wasn’t confident in my performance this year. I didn’t prepare properly for the season because I went to the World Baseball Classic (WBC). I didn’t have good chemistry with my teammates, but my siblings helped me well because we had worked together before. The manager, coach, general manager, and president helped me a lot, so I was able to adapt quickly. The fans also supported me a lot to do well in baseball, so I think I finished the season well this year.”

When asked about being the oldest catcher to win the award, Yang said, “This year, the manager and coach played me a lot at catcher. If I hadn’t injured my side in the middle of the season, I could have played more games. Next year I have more time to prepare (than this year). It gives me confidence that I can do better. So far, I’m preparing well,” he said. “I think my performance this year was a big step down from the last few years. I will try harder this year and prepare well so that I can do better next year.”

There is also a sense of gratitude for becoming the best catcher to ever win the award, surpassing Kim Dong-soo. Yang said, “I’m so honored that Legend came to present the award. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to make my first-team debut after being drafted in the eighth round of the second round. Now I’ve received such a big award eight times. I am grateful to my parents.”
